Has anyone successfully managed a firewood lot by pollarding or coppicing? I have seen papers on it and know that the English used to do it to maintain woodlots.

Supposedly it keeps the tree in a juvenal growth stage so that it is healthier and grows faster and you can get 40 years of wood biomass out of a tree in 15 to 20 by maintaining the established root system of a mature tree. But I wonder about loss to infection and rot and the time to maintain them.
