Kayak thread? Been doing my research and saving my shekels, going to use it to mainly bowfish/angle for Snakehead and go crabbing in the bay.

Leaning towards a Hobie Outback or Topwater PDL120, but started looking at the PA12 and TitanX that's releasing in Nov too.

What are you guys running?

I have a Heritage Angler 10' that I removed the seat from and installed a 50$ boat seat from Cabelas into using door hinges and marine cement. Works great except its a tad bit top heavy when I sit in it but have been fishing in it for years. Plus I got it for free. Guy I used to know brought it over once and left it here then dropped off the face of the Earth. No idea where he is still. Been years

The Pelican was the very first one I looked at because I know they make solid gun cases. I haven't seen a lot of positive reviews on the line as a whole.

I have an Old Town and I adore it. Only thing I don't like is how the propeller eats weeds. It's a pain removing them and if your lake is extremely weedy, might want to go Hobie, which I presume has less tendency to get tangled.

The Old Town is stable as anything and just so much fun to kit up. If you're going solo, you'll need a cart for it to haul it around. Car topping it is a bit of a bitch if you're solo, but doable with prep and forethought.

I like to load mine up with my tent and camping gear, then find a spot out by the lake to camp for a day or two. Fish during the day, eat what you catch, hang out at night by the fire, then pack up, paddle back to the car, and head home. Great fun.

I have a truck now, but when I car topped I'd leave a rug in my hatch and put it over the back of the roof so I could slide the kayak on and off. Made the whole process much easier.

yes, we were gonna practice spinning around and freeing ourselves from the kayak, when I got my head underwater it was my impulse to attempt a forceful push to the side as to get my head back over the surface, my arm must have been in a vulnerable position when that happened

at least getting off the spray skirt and getting out of the kayak went fine even after it had happened

Have you tried getting one of those grass cutter mods? I think there's one for trolling motors I was thinking of kitbashing on there.

Speaking of trolling motors, I noticed there's a powerpole mount on the back corner of the yak, if I attached a motor there, I'd probably run into tracking issues right?

Most of my buddies own Hobies and keep talking like the fin drive blows props out of the water, have you noticed an appreciable difference between the two? Better shallow water performance going to the flippers is a given but the rest seems overblown.

Prop gives the (big) advantage of instant reverse. Also the mirage drive chain WILL snap on you at the worst possible time.

Soft Racks are very underrated IMO, super easy and I don't worry about weight. I've used them for surfboards, ocean yaks, and my crummy canoe I take to the mountains. I'd be legitimately interested to hear from those that disagree.

100% easy. Anything they advertise will have a safety factor of 20-30%.

You should look at Fishing With Nat for the Old Town Sportsman. He owns one and has made a lot of content around it. He's owned multiple kayaks, and this one is his favorite. I'm getting back into fishing since childhood, and his videos make me want to by one. If the pedal-driven prop gets too weedy for you on a consistent basis, there is an alternative. Just look it up. Different companies seem to use different names.

I am only familiar with canoes and have several already but I constantly see guys in fishing circles posting their kayaks and only rarely canoes. For someone who's never been on a kayak could I get a list of the pros and cons of a kayak versus a canoe for fishing?
