>what to cook/bring to eatHonestly, if you're only out a day or two, don't bother bringing much more than a couple sandwiches. Stuff that's fine surviving a couple days without refrigeration. Your salamis and your parmesans. Smoked/salty stuff.
No cook. No kitchen. No weight.
If you reeeeally want to cook something for day two or three, just bring your steel cup and an Esbit stove to boil water.
Oatmeal. Grits. Orzo. Ramen.
Pack some bullion cubes for the latter.
If out for a while and want something hot and heartier: little carrots, celery, and jerky are both snacking and make a cup soup/stew. Little potatoes if you want. If you've got a vacuum sealer, you can even turn canned soup into bags to lower weight. Just seal up like three times.
