I am going to be sleeping in a barn in northern Michigan for the next eight months. Sleeping pad will be static but would like something I could backpack with potentially too

Klymit makes decent inflatable pads for not a lot of money, and you have your choice between insulated and non. If you're looking at multiple seasons you might want to do a non-insulated and figure out some other way to insulate during the winter (I've seen people throw a mylar casualty blanket underneath but I don't know if it works). Or you could go with a closed cell like your picrel, or a thermarest. Some support, some insulation, and no air leaks.

can anyone recommend mats that are very wide? either inflatable or foldable, just with an R-value not much lower than 2 (strict minimum).

Currently my setup is an inflatable thermarest for most of the insulation + a foldable foam mat to protect it from scratches and punktures from whatever shit might be on the ground, as well as give it the extra boost to get a total R-value of nearly 5 (recommended for my area in the winter). Thermally this is a fine setup, but it feels like the thermarest is made for twinks and anorexics, and I sometimes find myself rolling off and waking up from having my sleeping bag or bivvy as the only thing between me and the cold ground. The mat is a bit larger at around 60cm but this is still very tight.

The way I pack my shit is making a big roll "vertically" in my pack (mats loosely rolled, lining the walls of the pack, everything else stuffed inside), and my pack's main pocket is almost 80cm in depth, so I would like to go larger.

10cm thickness, easy to inflate under a minute, never have to worry about some shitty, cold mat every again.
Yeah, doesn't pack down the smallest but it's warm. I carry an additional, very light-weight ground sheet to protect it, but I carry the same ground sheet to protect the tent/reduce dirt when packing the tent up, anyway.

It was surprisingly good. Used it solo for a year and then used it a further 3 months or so with a girl. It started to fail after that because it's only meant for like 250 lbs but it was great.

Perks were rain puddling didn't affect me, had slightly hammock feel while sleeping, and was fairly easy to setup/tear down (especially in the dark)

The cons are it was small so if you roll over frequently it you might do a barrel roll unironically if you panic and grab the opposite edge, and wind/cold air hit your ass like a hammock

Personally I use a Thermarest Mesh Cot and a NeoAir Topo Lux Air Mattress with a GigaPump 2.0 from Amazon... but if you want cheap just go to the army surplus store and the cot will be 80% cheaper, or if you want cheap plus packable then just get some Naturehike stuff off of AliBaba. You can also put normal sheets on an air mattress if you want, just like a small portable bed.

10mm is about what US-issue mats are, which is enough to take the edge off rocks/roots and give you a little insulation from the ground, but that's it. If you're a picky sleeper or have back problems you might want to go thicker (heh)

For 8 months? Go to the moving section of a hardware store. They often sell thick slabs of foam the perfect size and shape to sleep on. I would use one of these and and a typical backpacking pad underneath. Cozy, warm, cheap, less noisy than inflatable and won't leak air.

Really not. I've used one for few nights and I was coldest I've ever been sleeping outside, including sleeping without a sleeping bag in winter. The R value of one of those is like 0,5.
Almost any closed cell pad is superior to that.

My wife and I use a queen size double-decker air mattress that has built-in inflation. You can either use a power inverter for your car or in my case (licensed ham here) my 30amp radio box and a fold up solar panel.

i'll also say this, i dont think ill ever get a pad that has vertical tubes as opposed to horizontal. One of the sections came apart, so i have one giant bubble on my right side, about 2 inches taller than the rest. Makes sleeping difficult. My guess is that i'd rather have a busted tube on one small part of my body, not the entire length. At any rate, my pad is leaking air so its useless.

How come nobody ever talks about the Crazy Creek Hex 2.0, or more specifically the Lounger?
I use mine as a sleeping pad and it keeps me plenty warm. Although I can sleep on hardwood flooring just fine, pad or not, so I don't care about "comfort".
I love it as a chair. I would say avoid the non-longback version as it is quite narrow for chair use for an adult male, imo. You could use just the longback as a pad + chair, though. The lounger is good because you can flip it upsidedown and double up the padding on your chest area, and as a chair double up the butt padding.

Milsurp sleeping mats are completely retarded they're just fucking foam rectangles. The finnish pad is literally identical to a regular roll mat only in green and the BW one is fucking thin and doesn't fit into regular packs because it folds up into a retarded square. These things are more expensive than like any other roll mat, worse quality and disgusting and crusty because they're ancient second hand surplus buying one of these is the ultimate in larp. Oh yeah they're super heavy as well.
