They are usually quite cheap to stay for a night and are easily accessible, and going at the right time of year can net you some easy solitude if that's what you wish for. You can often pay upon arrival or in advance, it's almost always mentioned when you look up the sites themselves.
I saw you earlier mentioning that you aren't comfortable with setting up a tent; practice makes perfect! We all start from somewhere. Do it a few times (instructions always come with), and soon you'll be able to set it up in mere minutes without thinking about it.
Bringing a cooler of food is simple and easy. If you want to look up an easy campfire recipe, look up hobo meals. Literally all you do is take some meat, veggies, seasoning, and you wrap it all up in aluminum foil and throw it in the fire for 10-20 minutes. They're great!
