Sleeping Bag ratings

No.2631358 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Alright I'm reconfiguring my backpacking shit for this year. What temperature ratings are realistic? I like how REI gives a comfy #, lower limit, and survival # on some products

I've only ever used Walmart sleeping bags for car camping, and some high dollar one my cousin lent me. It was rated for 20 degrees but I think it was barely in the 40s that night. Reading that duckdown is the best, but shouldn't be stored compressed. Well my cousins was definitely compressed and flatter than it probably should have been.

Looking at REI's used section for nice ones. I'd really rather not spend like $300 on a sleeping bag. But <$180, sure.

Californian mountains, San Jacinto, Gorgonio, and maybe 1 day, around Bishop or Lone Pine.

Should I go with a 15° or a 0°?
