>>2631899I went a few years ago and my lessons:
1. head out FIRST THING in the morning and get to your backcountry trailhead and get hiking. This way you avoid all the retards.
I did some great hikes, I hiked out to Mary Mountain one day, which was pretty flat, but the day was sunny and pleasant and I enjoyed my meadow hike that ended up being a whole day, and the next day I hiked out to the Black Canyon of Yellowstone, which was ok, but took a long hike to be interesting, and I spent a whole day in the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, which was rugged, but more busy, especially compared to my previous days where I really didnt see many people.
I spent a day with the Geysers but felt like that was wasted. They all kind of blur together after you see the first few. There was a rainbow lake that has a hiking trail around it.
If I had to do it again, I would do more backcountry camping. I only spent one overnight and it was on the Hellroaring trail. My nights I spent in the Canyon campground. I could have done a lot more backcountry camping than I did
pic attached is a lake at Lamar Valley that has this steep trail to get to. Not that long, but steep enough to kick your butt.
