It's purple, shiny and with remarkable formations.

how the fuck do you not know that this ISN'T amethyst. Obviously something else. I have no geology training or formal education and I can tell you with 100% certainty that is NOT amethyst lol.

Try to scratch some glass with it. If it can scratch it, then it's amethyst. If not then i'ts fluorite. Although my vote goes to fluorite.

I tend to agree on the fluorite. Those look like pretty large crystals for amethyst. You need a tape measure or ruler in there for perspective though op.

I have a few fairly large crystals in storage somewhere that i got in Brazil as souvenirs. And its not very uncommon to find crystals this big depending on location

Gonna side with fellow geologists here and say fluorite. Try scratching it with a steel nail and scratching glass with it. If it's fluorite you should be able to scratch it with a steel nail. If it was amethyst you'd be able to able to scratch glass with it some.

If you're willing to break it give part of it a whack. If it breaks in flat planes and looks like you could get octahedrons it's probably fluorite. If it breaks in ways that just looks like broken slag glass it's probably amethyst.

Geofag here, that's not amethyst, it's lepidolite. You can tell it isn't amethyst because of the horizontal striations show here (>>263367).
