Adventurers can do any manner of things, but often to find profit in a specific resource or establish an enterprise.
Explorers have little to no knowledge of what they might find. Adventurers start with a plan.
The explorer finds the a cave entrance and learns what kinds of things might be inside. The adventures plunder rumored goblin cave that the locals told them probably exists (even if they don't know).
They're not exclusive. Adventurer just has more of a directive purpose to find a trade route and establish a trading company to profit.
