>>2637473For Free, look up BLM land. Public land that you can just drive on dirt roads, pull off, and just camp/ off road/ shoot guns/ fireworks, mine for gold, etc.
Beware you SHOULD have a 4x4 with high ground clearance that is reliable. You need a higher SUV with AWD bare minimum. Do copy those youtubers that camp out of a fucking Prius in the outskirts of Joshua tree.
Some BLM places will get packed by off-roaders on the weekends. Ocotillo Wells is super fun, there's a "pumpkin patch" of these strange rocks out there. You need a ATV or UTV to get to it. Friend in a lifted 4Runner couldn't make it the whole way, but user-error is likely.
Be safe, don't go alone, bring 4x the water you think you need. Extra food in ice chests and dry food not-in ice chests.
Sequoia is amazing, yes its crowded, yes they have a tram system that works really well
Yosemite, I haven't been yet. Afraid it'll be too crowded.
I lived up north a bit, WAY too much private property there. Anywhere that doesn't charge an entrance fee, (even little parks are $7/ day) you're technically legally trespassing, and I got told off by chump winery and vineyard staff and police. (Cause cameras are EVERYWHERE)
Thats the reason their wildfires are so bad. There are no fire roads for trucks to access the hills.... Which get "maintained" by trucks and Jeeps and dirt bikes keeping trails from getting grown over and washed away.
But if you're willing to drive, Redwood state park, and Bodega Bay were my favorites up there.
Where are you specifically? Do you want close or far suggestions?
