It doesn't matter because none of the rivers in this country are safe to drink without boiling anyway, but they used to be.
Hypothetically everyone who likes camping could shit in the woods this way and still drink out of the rivers if we got rid of all the industrial pollutants.
Someone would have to cut down a tree for firewood occasionally (like they would if it were real commons and not just federally owned land they kindly allow us to walk on).
