I'm thinking about retiring from social affairs and moving to the desert in an RV. I'd be living by myself most likely but I want something more comfortable than just a modified van. Something that you can cook in and have a decent bed, considering I'd be living in it full time. Should I get an RV that you have to attach to a truck? Or an all-in-one motorhome. What kinds do you recommend?

having a separate truck and camper trailer has advantages.
some people opt to buy a generic enclosed cargo trailer and totally customizing an modifying it to be a custom designed and built RV live-in camper to your own needs & desires

depends on how much money & time you have and your skill level

if you have a trailer then if your truck breaks down you still have a home (either where you unhitched or pay someone to take it away from where truck broke down) this is the ONLY benefit to a trailer and may save you from being on the street/shithole motel during repairs or being forced to quickly buy another motorhome that also sucks because previous is uneconomical to repair
the benefits of a motorhome over that are substantial, the best being more places to park

effectively yes. as long as you don't park in the middle of an instagram hotspot the police aren't going out of there way to stake-you out and keep an eye on you. I met a man in Nevada that was living out of his truck. Crazy old vietnam vet that was awake to Agenda 21 type shit. easily blended in with the Basque sheep herders who live way out.

If you would prefer a permanent location to park your rig, check out parcels for sale in Eureka county NV. No zoning or building codes besides the state-wide rule on septics. You can live in your RV parked there as long as you want. Only an hour or so to the grocery store in Ely. Loved it there.

correct. it's a huge county with less than 2k people in it. they don't have the infrastructure to enforce anything so they don't bother making up rules to enforce. The septic/sewer requirement is just a state law that nobody is going to actually enforce but it would save you a trip to an RV park to dump your tanks.

That's pretty cool. I was looking at cheap Northern California and SE Oregon and even though the places are very rural they have a shit ton of rules there.
