Share strange places you've seen on Google Earth and see if anyone is near it or knows anything about it.

This is a strange patch of land near Atomic City Idaho that does not match the land around it. I desperately want to go see it in person someday.

It might be an old lava flow. There are a whole lot of them in my state (AZ), even the forested ones stand out. In some of the flows there are sometimes gemstones and metal ores.

That's what I was thinking, too, it's not too far from Craters of the Moon, which is a vast lava formation that is mostly still black, but this area really struck me with how extremely colorful it is compared to anywhere else in the region. Don't know if that's mineral deposits or colorful plants, or a bit of both. It's so striking, though.

Wrong. That's to the North of Atomic City, not West. And Atomic city itself isn't dangerous to visit. Yes, I am aware of why Atomic City is called that. Doesn't seem to have anything to do with the colorful lava formation on unnamed land to the West.

I also have a strange place found on Google maps that's in Idaho!
43°33'34"N 115°56'20"W
relatively near the helicopter military base, on the other side of lucky peak reservoir, there's this spot that's blacked out censored on all satellite maps, on top of a mountain at the end of a seemingly needlessly long and winding road.
I'm so curious what it could be because not even any of the actual military bases are censored, but for some reason this spot is.

some are pretty neat stuff buy you have to book it very fast and very long ahead and maybe a citizen (got denied as a german tourist at white sand missile range for example after some chink or Iranians misbehaved on a tour in the past. so freedom citizen only) with basic clearance with a bunch of questions for some,

also no electronic EQ, Phone, GPS, binoculars etc.

I don't know if this is really some area that is altered by human activity in some way, or an Error that sometimes occurs where a section gets discolored or distorted by Google's system.

whatever it is it isn't blacked out on google maps, that or something else is there in your photo that's been moved. And on this other map I use sometimes to cross reference it is not even there.

I imagine it's pretty cool to walk over, similar landscape to the Hawaiian shield volcanoes.

The history of that place is awesome, huge volcanic lava floods and two huge water floods thought to have different causes, all in the same place.

I really hope I can hike out to this place someday, though sunlight is not my friend and it IS a desert, so that's a bit of a conundrum.

could u zoom in more and get back to me. on my Google maps it looks like that from a.far but if you zoom in real close it's blacked out true on multiple different satellite maps on both my mobile app and on my PC browser.
