Always leave an itinerary with someone at home. It should include where you’re going, a rough description of your route (or location of your campsite if you’re just camping in one spot for a few days), and who to contact if you don’t return at your scheduled time (search and rescue if they have one, ranger station, local sherif, state police, and area hospital). A lot of dead hiker stories are a result of them not doing this.
