Southeast Alaska reporting in. In the summer, because 24/7 light, it gets hot. I like to hike up about 1000 feet or so and lay down on the moraine. The river starts on the lower right of the glacier and the air is a cool mist and there's no pollution or anything so there's that. Why on earth would you start a thread like this? Are you a skid? Be honest.

Gas is 8 dollars a gallon and the ferry to the island costs 140 dollars round trip and has 3 sailing waiting every weekend. And you need to drive like 5 hours north or east to get any decent recreation on the mainland don't even get me started on the stupid chugs selling the old growth forrests so chinks can make expensive tables or whatever. I fucking hate it here, I just go to Washington for my recreation every time.

>>2642651 I just had a lot of fun staying at my brother-in-law's cabin up in Pender harbor. Hello cabin doesn't really do it justice the small second home on the properties just your regular stick frame but it's fitted out nice with a gorgeous view of the little Bay that he's on the waterfront of. The main house though is this gorgeous log cabin with a huge deck picture windows and massive concrete pad around a pool right on the water. British Columbia is nice, if you have the money. This place is probably worth over 10 million bucks.
I don't know why people log old growth though either. My friend works at a log sort and these logs get smashed crap when they get brought in and they lose about 40 to 50% of it can't be used at least by the big Industrial players. He brings home huge piles of clear yellow and red cedar for his little sawmill. He can easily take more home but he just doesn't have the room for it

This would that he takes home would end up getting turned into chips for paper or even set up the road to the port melon pulp Mill just to be used as hog fuel for their code generation boiler.
I showed a native Carver some of my photos of the wood that he takes home who lives out on the Squamish Nation lands right by the Lion's Gate Bridge and he's never seen what's so good even he can't get it and he's a renowned carver.
I have to agree though BC is the place to live I currently live in Squamish and have no plans on moving. Sure we put up with all these idiot van lifers every year but small price to pay. We get to live here they can just come and go

>>2644266 The fun thing is, he doesn't have any kids and while he is my sort of married to my wife's sister she isn't going to inherit the place as he's giving her a pile of cash from his estate. And he had a falling out decades ago with these only nephew so I actually may inherit the place but I'm not sure if I can afford the taxes on it. I suppose I could always rent out part of it and use that to subsidize it.
I'd have to sell my place in Squamish but being as I got in pretty early we're about a million in the clear on it between what's left of our mortgage and how much it's increased in value. I don't relish living on the Sunshine Coast again though. Too much of a very hostage and very little and limited things to do in the winter or when the weather is bad
