Sucks to live in Australia I guess.
The snakes around where I live in the states are for the most part totally harmless. Theyre fun to pick up and look at when Im hiking.

My mother grew up in a house built by her grandfather here in Australia. It wasn't sealed very well. She would frequently wake up with a venomous snake crawling on her. She would roll over and fall asleep, ignoring the snake. Her mother my grandmother has told stories of walking in to find my mother patting and touching the snake, brown snakes, red bellies, adders and etc.

yes. they harass wild animals and blame them when stupid dog gets assraped. in the city they harass people and if you defend yourself you are a bad guy and that's why their dog harassed you in the first place because dogs are at the top of spiritual pyramid and not a disgusting monsters without morals or loyalty. if you break into a house guarded by a dog just carry some treats and you are fine.

I cannot fathom this thread's shit-skinned third-world love of mankind's most ancient and commonly-hated enemy in nature. For all time, in all cultures, in all parts of the world, snakes have been something to avoid, hate, and kill whenever possible. Phobia of snakes is THE most common phobia in the world. Even goddamn monkeys in the jungle fear snakes so badly they'll collecticely beat them to death with sticks just for existing. Not to mention that every pet snake owner I've ever met is a fucking weirdo. Nearly every religion features snakes as man's enemy, and in the current fucking year, onions are championing them. I shouldn't be surprised.

Rattlesnakes do this all the time where I live, but they don't leave in the morning, they usually wait until you go somewhere. Really complicates things if you need to take down your tent, though.

It's like the blanket fear of weird, jagged/organic holes in clusters, heights, at one point utterly necessary, instincts needed to survive before the brain was capable of making decent decisions. Basing your hate of an animal on ancient instinct that's reacting because it sees a venemoid in every snake is like being afraid of the sound of thunder indoors. You are the third world retard that has an irrational hate for nature.

Yeah, I work conservation in Australia where there's tiger snakes and I've seen my first two snakes for the season this week. First one was about a meter away but didn't frighten us so we were chill and the snake very casually slithered away. Second snake we were walking past (it was in-between myself and my coworker) and it started to slither away so we noticed and jumped, which is when the snake started to take a defensive posture. Snakes are generally pretty much as chill as you are, unfortunately they're also very sneaky so they give you a fright which frightens them.

To be fair there is a very good reason we have an evolved fear response.

I'm always bushwalking along a local creek and I almost never see a snake before I startle it. Motherfuckers are hiding in the leaves and and weeds all the time and frankly everything on the ground looks like a goddamn snake what with all the sticks and roots and shit. I just know I'm gonna get bit one day from treading to close to a snake that I didn't even see. They really ought to be required to wear hi-vis.
