/out/, I've been trying to find the best place/time in the United States to find the most beautiful sunsets and was wondering where you guys think the best place would be. Is there some sort of sunset science I can use to run a geoquery to narrow this location down or is it just anecdotal experience. So far I've come up with my criteria for looking for the best sunsets.
>Seen from the top of a mountain , preferably high enough to have Alpenglow
>The sun sets over the ocean or flat ground, not other mountains
>Winter with more air particles and a halo caused by the ice
>Clear weather
>Quiet
>No other people or few people, any spot reached by a technical climb would be really good
>the farther north the better due to the angels
My current hunch is that Cone Peak in CA would be the best due to its height relative to the Pacific Ocean, but I would imagine that a volcanic sunset in the Cascades would be pretty sick, though you usually don't want to be at the summit at sunset. Maybe winter somewhere in the NE like Katahdin? Colorado or Wheeler Peak NV? post sunsets if you got them
