'Emergency kits' as pictured in OP are inexplicably dumb and misguided. Are these supplies in case you lose your pack and somehow don't lose the kit? Are they just 'reserve' supplies? Why don't you have redundancies for fire/water/shelter already built into your ruck? Most logical explanation is this is, maybe, for when a car runs out of gas in the countryside. Even then, highly questionnable
Aside from EDC items (eg knife, light, bic, sharpie, phone, wallet with knife card, keys with SAK), if I'm day hiking:
>Mylar blanket>Afterbite>Carmex tube>granola bar>TQ (moved to pelican case when boating)if I'm guiding on the river, this is what's in my PFD (added to previous list):
>$5 bills x2>sealed wet wipe>extra locking carabiner>2x paracord Prussik hitches We're already required to have 2 knives (one dedicated for rescue), whistle, and a flip line (tubular webbing and a locking carabiner).
Seems like a lot now that I write it out, but doesn't compromise my vest's flotation.
picrel is for 'cultural' emergencies

>Knife>1xAAA penlight>Sharpie>Bic mini>maybe a spare mag/TQ>if I'm bushwhacking, a compassI EDC a G19 in an Enigma or G26/bellyband if not using a pack w/ hip belt, otherwise the glock moves to a fanny pack or chest rig (utility style, not tactical). Ruck holds everything else.
