The MLD poncho requires a hat with a brim (but not a full brim) and doesn’t seal well under the neck/near the chest. The hood can cinch somewhat around your face, but isn’t adjustable around your head (like an adjustable ball cap). See pic. That’s a $450 Arc’teryx jacket but only a few cents worth of shock cord, a little plastic brim, and a design that goes well over the wearers chin make the hood infinitely better. A lot of really expensive jackets implement some kind of adjustment like this, but almost no ponchos do.
I want to love ponchos, but haven’t found one with a decent hood.
