>>2647782Anon I'm the guy who did trap lining in NWT.
Try the Trappers Bible by Eustace Hazard Livingston to get some practical information on the art form.
You've also got a lot of styles of traps that are now technically illegal to use, so make sure your modern traps are compliant and save the "antiques" for a SHTF situation.
Most of your traps for game will be snare traps, I recommend just buying them in bulk as you can cover a trap line well and most of the modern snare style traps have a break in them for larger critters. Make no mistake a snare will kill a deer if it gets it in the right place. But the break is there to prevent that as it's a slow painful death for larger animals with a small snare.
Always carry a rifle with you, most small game will be easily handled with a .22 however you want something bigger if you're going after predatory animals like wolverines. I knew a guy who trapped one once and didn't make sure it was dead. The thing woke from it's oxygen deprived coma while he was loading the back of his truck, busted through the burlap sack he had it in, took 5 shots with a .22 and finally stopped moving when in his desperation put a pick axe through it's skull. (Wolverines are a different breed.)
Hope this helps. Like I said before, good if your doing it as a hobby, but you will need a big trapline if you want to eake a living from it.
