Anyone use a kansbol for camping/backpacking? Why havent they made a carbon steel version ? Carbon steel kansbol would be a nice option

I carried a mora 2000 (same blade, different handle and finish) in the army, its great at taking abuse, but thats about it. Bitch to sharpen, wont hold a good edge, the grind is counterproductive and a gimmick. Not to mention its sw*edish. I literally carried it as a backup so that whenever some mouth breather wanted to borrow my knife, i didn't have to hand over my nice knife.
Its nice if you have room temperature iq or rusting is something you are concerned with.

Mora's stainless is better than the 1095 they use.

I just use the Companion when /out/ for a small knife. Works great. I don't like the grind, as you have the sharpen a lot more than a flat or hollow with a V-grind, but that's the only issue I have.

Knew a guy who used a 2000 for all his camping need, he loves the knife for whatever reason.

For some reason in my country the Kansbol is nearly twice the price of the 2000, literally the same blade with a different handle. And I like the looks of the 2000 more than the Kansbol. Oh, well...

I carry the orange one at work in forestry, its alright for a 40€ Knife.
One thing I hate about it is the micro bevel, makes it shitty to sharpen

Nta, but the grip is shit on the Kansbol/Garberg in my opinion. Very slippery and plasticky in feel. The Companion grip is far better. It's also 4-5 times more expensive than the Companion, but you are not getting 4-5 times the knife. In fact, I actually find the mini scandi towards the tip makes it less convenient than the uniform full scandi, especially for sharpening. I wouldn't necessarily call it a shitty knife, but it's totally mediocre.

Fixed blade hunting knives suck dick anyway. I've long switched to exclusively using folders for eviscerating deer because they are far less cumbersome, weigh basically nothing and don't poke me in the abs when I'm sitting in a tree stand.

Oh and another advantage I've found in using folders is that they are usually ground very nice and thin behind the edge. Most factory fixed blades (Lionsteel is a huge culprit) come with soft steel and are ridiculously thick behind the edge, meaning you get neither wear resistance nor sliciness, even in something they like to advertise as "super steel".
They do this so they have fewer returns from chipping and breakages. Sad but true.

The thing is that most fixed blade are easier to keep clean if you're cleaning fish or animals all that shit will get down in the folder which is not something you clean everyday. With a fixed blade you can just wipe it off etc. Anyways it's not a huge deal I guess. But yeah fixed blade knives suck to carry around compared to a folder.

Used a mora companion for years. It works okay but it is too big a knife for most small tasks and not a machete for when you wanted something bigger.

i also noticed the sharpness of the stainless ones are good. good edge, pretty durable. does rust quite easily though.

i was wondering if anyone knows a SAK alternative that has a really good blade. I mostly pull one out for misc little tasks but the edge on them is so bad.

Mora sells a lot of overpriced stuff to the American consooomer crowd. That's one of them. There's really nothing that full tang knife of that size can do that my 3/4 tang bushcraft black can't do for half the price. It's dead weight.

I always see people throwing autistic tantrums about full tang, but then they don't even use their expensive knives for anything. Not so much as a scratch on them. I've had plenty of knives over the years and if I need to do something retarded with it, I pick up one of the cheapest knives I have which has either been some random mora (not full tang) or my glock knife (not full tang) and I have never seen any kind of failure.

I do everything I need in my /out/ings with a 6€ locally produced Mora style knife and a equally locally produced 7€ hatchet.

An extremely cheap locally produced one, out of the hardware store.
It's from one of a few factories that produce them with the exact same style and most often don't care about branding them since they are just simple, cheap agricultural tools.
The 7€ ones seemed to be straight out of the "with slight defects" bin. Mine for example has a misaligned eye and consequently misaligned shaft.
Never said it was perfect and I'm on the market for a new, better one.

They're gas station knives. They're the cheapest knives you can get. We use them to open buckets of paint. How that crap gets exported is beyond me.
