The only use case I can see is if you need lots of water in a harder to reach place that still has plenty but bad water, like a mineral/chemically contaminated area with for example mine run off. You are doing some kind of work and need lots of water for people or pack animals. But yet need to be mobile as your work area moves. Like if you would for example need to stabilize a rock wall/path with heavy tools and concrete anchor points and move 500m to next spot, thus making a permanent solution no viable.
or you are car camping and just need to carry to it a creak for a few meters but need 200L to fill up your freshwater RV tank. Reverse osmosis filter are nothing new and have their uses.
