>>2651305>One thing I don't use is the fucking red light though, I would prefer a warm white to use inside the tentThat's perfectly reasonable, I know a lot of people who don't like the red light or think it's useless at least.
I like it for 3 reasons:
- keeps my night vision more intact than white, so when using a red focus light I maintain some peripheral vision where the light doesn't shine. With a white light that effect is much less there to the point where you have little to no peripheral vision where the light doesn't shine. Granted this effect only matters when either solo hiking or everyone in the group has red headlamps (and is willing to use them). One person with a white headlamp and the peripheral vision is gone for the entire group.
- you are far harder to see by people, so if you don't want to announce your presence to everyone, red is much better for a lower profile
- you seem to scare animals less. I only have anecdotal evidence for this, but I feel like I run into more animals at night with a red light than a white light. Since I live somewhere where the worst thing I'll come across is usually a boar I enjoy seeing animals in the woods.
- bonus reason that doesn't need to be the case but usually is: the red light often is dimmer than the white light, mitigating my complaints about too bright lights somewhat and increasing battery life.
I wouldn't want to have just red light, but I do enjoy having the option personally.
