Anybody use a GPS on the trail at all?

Ive always just used paper maps, but im gonna be exploring a wilderness area that I am not familiar with and doesnt really have developed or marked trails at all and I really cannot find any great maps for it

I guess I could take screenshots on google satellite maps and print them, but id have to have like a 30 page binder to get all the details I want and that sounds inconvenient

All I really want is a way to view google sat maps offline, but as far as I can tell downloading the map just defaults to the default google map
At a minimum even just a basic tool that would tell me my grid coordinates that I could cross reference with a paper map would be useful

Im looking at a few on amazon and am having a tough time telling what features they include
Can anybody rec me what they use?

I know some hard ass is gonna call me gay for not using paper maps, but it seems like a good investment just to have
