>>2653272>describe the jobI applied and hired to be the purser. When I got to New Orleans they gave me some coveralls and mop and I was deck crew. After we arrived or left a port, I would clean shit from noon until midnight. Everything gets covered in soot because of diesel powered boiler. The worst job was once a week I can to power wash these garbage bins. That was pretty disgusting.
>the prosGot to be on the water and see the nature along the river. Travel around a part of the country I would have otherwise never seen. Meet interesting people. Once I quit taking the job so seriously, it was a nice fuck off job where I could just walk around with a mop and bucket with a shitty look on my face and the captain thought I was busy and working hard. I was one of the few single white guys that worked and that helped with some easy hook ups. My favorite thing to do was get some snacks from the bar and then go hang out under the pool for a couple hours.
>consI am from the midwest so this was my first time hanging around black people. Most of them were cool and we were friends, but they could be so annoying sometimes. Another con is one of my supervisors was some short fat fuck that never worked. The breaking point was when he threw a cigarette butt on the deck and told me to clean it up.
>interesting anecdotesThe only interesting thing is how easy it was for me to hook up with other crew, or just how nice girls were to me in general. Whenever one of the cooks worked where I was working, she would save me a plate, so I got a second dinner, which was usually better than what the crew was server. Food for the crew was very good though. My favorite was the jambalaya this one great big fat fuck made. My favorite thing to eat on board from the main kitchen was these alligator fritter things.
