For the mountaineer's route on Whitney, the permits (North Fork of the Lone Pine Creek) release 40% at 0700 PST 2 weeks before the permit date, so you could probably snag some MR overnight permits for Mount Whitney which is more of a scramble/climb but would still be fantastic training. Best you could do would be to form a loop starting from Vivian Creek in Forest Falls and then summit San Gorgonio and then do Skyhigh Trail to Dry Lake trail to South Forks trail to Falls Creek Trail and complete that loop. Not as familiar with the traverse ranges but just looking up popular mountains and then forming a loop with CalTopo is what I usually do. Just dependent on where you live rn
