>Making kindling wiht a hatchet.why would you need to use a hatchet or a axe for kindling?
If we are assumig that you can only make kindling from logs or felled trees or limbs for what ever reaosn the process to make it is the same with a boys axe or a hatchet, thats not where the safty issue is.
The saftly issue is with splitting logs, or shopping limbs/logs into smaller sections.
If you go through the motions of choping with a hatchet, imagine the log is not there, where does that hatchet end up if you continue your swinging path? Perfectly alines with your legs. or if you have your section of wood on a stump and you miss the mark, which can happen, again, the path of that hatchet is perfectly alined with your legs, or foot.
If you look at a boys axe because of the length your strike its going to end up in the dirt, or the stump your are chopping on and are less likly to injure yourself. Same thing goes with trying to cut a limb in half.
But again, this can all be done with a saw too. Which is why i said, if for what ever reason you need a hatchet, just take a boys axe, its a bit heavier but the leverage you can get from it, and safty are far greater.
