Need Help Philadelphia

Going to Harpers Ferry to hike the AT, enjoy the history, fall weather and will go to Philly one day for an authentic cheese steak.
I'm taking a friend and now they want to go to the Rocky statue. That means traversing Philly, parking etc.
Any Philly bros here? It seems like a dangerous shit hole that should be avoided but I'm looking for parking and transportation info for the trip.

Is there a way to park out of town in a safe spot to leave a car and ride the railway into town and/or take it from Pat's/Geno's to the Rocky statue.

OP, South Philly and the Art Museum are boring places full of tourists. If you like Rocky, take the L to the Kensington and Allegheny stop and walk over to his house. It’s a cool neighborhood full of street vendors, and they’ll be happy to show you around!

That seems to be the consensus but if you get too far out of Philly, Pat and Geno's are the only ones that anybody knows and Pat's is supposedly the inventor? At least it's the oldest, as far as I know.
