opinions of the merrell moab 2 I am thinking of buying them but I still have my doubts about whether to buy them or continue using industrial boots for hiking

I had a few pairs. They are decent enough but I really only use them for fucking around town in adverse conditions or biking or light/short hikes. If I am carrying any wieght I prefer a beefier boot.

quality: mediocre
fit: lots of support/curves and not flat inside, very flexible, midsole too soft and cushiony for its weight.
weight: heavy for a light "boot"

would not advise but better than work boots probably.

I would rather use trailrunners in good weather and short trips or mor expensive better quality boots if the weather is bad.

Fine boot. Are there better boots? Yes. My Moab 2's weren't really waterproof, so go for the vents if you /out/ in hot weather. For my money I'd but the Adidas Terrex Hiker 2, on sale for like 50% off at REI right now. Actually picked up a pair today.

Bro I had some Merrell Moabs but tried pic related and they are way better. Looks kinda silly but after some miles you really get why they have a chunky heel piece, it really does help trail walking endurance.

First question is do you need boots? If you’re day hiking without a pack you probably don’t. I switched to lone peak trail runners for day hikes, boots are for real multi day hiking trips and camping with a pack

I got a pair too. Very comfy, pretty much no break-in period, and felt like I had more walking stamina. After like 4 walks I could already see the boot starting to deteriorate, and to those of you who do off-trail or rough walking you know how much it can blow your boots up. Long story short, I like them for well-kept trails but am back to my Scarpas.

They're comfy, better than whatever work boots you're using probably. If you're doing day hikes on trails you don't need to spend money on anything more, but for backpacking and/or off trail travel I like something with more support and traction.

this is the move desu. I just got a pair of the danner fullbores (which I think is just the non goretex version of the mountain 600) and they're amazing,my favorite desert boot i've tried so far. best of both worlds between a boot and a trail runner.

Very cheap. Feel cheap too. Don't go as cheap as possible with boots. I'd say minimum is a $100 bucks on sale, probably more like $150 for a good pair of boots.
Not $60-80 or whatever those are going for on closeout
