I like buying the US Army UCP ACP. It is cheap because the army discontinued it and most people hate the color.
I get textile dye from Hobby Lobby and try to improve the color. Picrel has an M81 Woodland Camo pack , a USMC Marpat camo ammo shingle, British DPM pack cover and two UCP packs I dyed.

Correct. The larpers have artificially raised prices so now you end up paying 2x what it's actually worth (and it's usually not worth that much to begin with because it's subpar gear)

Not really. What they all said is absolutely true, you can get better quality for cheaper shopping for actual outdoor brands, and this is especially true when you factor in discounts / shopping out of season items that are being discontinued, 9 times out of 10 they're just being discontinued because they're switching what colors they'll be making next season. You aren't going to look like a WoW TBC raider with funky colors either, they're all good colors most of the time.

Then when you save money through doing that way, you can splurge on actual good larping gear, like Crye G3 pants in some weird / rare camo to REALLY flex on the larpers.

Honestly, I usually keep a pair of these in the trunk because I never know if I'll be /out/ somewhere realize my footwear is not sufficient for the terrain I suddenly find myself on. I also have an extra Kevlar helmet rolling around in the trunk that I just never take out. There is literally no reason I would need it in public, I just never removed it, and at this point, I probably just won't.

then in the 90s and early 2000s, the armies started getting rid of these for basically free because they wanted to empty out the storage space.
Now, 20 years later the stores are gone and new stuff is not made for million men drafted armies but rather small cop-armies in small batches. Armies that sit in airconditioned offices most of the time and don't really walk anywhere anymore.

ORC Ind shell pants, Swiss gaiters, ecws baselayers, ilbe pack, etc.
I never paid full REIshit price for anything but my snowshoes, it's all handmedowns or surplus.
The neon glowworm crowd gets a little squirrely, but I'm not up there to socialize, especially not with doctors from Boston.

The US Army ACP UCP full size pack is very well made and durable. It has two large sustainment pouches, heavy duty zippers, a lot of attachment webbing and attached straps that are also heavy duty, even the zippers and zipper pulls are heavy duty. The inside of the bag is cavernous. It has an external frame and large padded belt also.
I paid less than $100 for it. Please post a currently available commercial market equivalent.

I said milsurp was inferior, and I proceeded to explain as such by describing how civvie gear is better. I'll admit that saying its "only good" for fashion is false though. Its okay for what it is, but I still believe it's inferior.

Nothing special. Just the standard issued US Army DLATS coyote tan boots. They are comfortable enough for me, and incredibly durable. I've had them for years and the soles just never seem to wear down.

I hate these boots. They weigh a fuckton, and the waterproofing means you feet are going to get sweaty and need to replace socks constantly. They do last forever, given the soles are like 2 inches thick.

Anytime I go hiking or camping I usually bring a milsurp jacket of some kind. My favorite is my flecktarn one but I've got a variety to pick from depending on mood/need. With the exception of certain gear I generally always check milsurp sources for gear/clothing as it's usually the cheapest and works really well. I only check the civilian market stuff when I'm trying to pinch on weight which is rare
