>>2661409Carry a basic fixed blade knife. Something with no serrations. Max of about 6 inches so you can control it with finer cutting. It can help you improvise gear, cut your way out of bad entanglements with old nets when crossing water etc. A knife is the thing that you don't need until you really really need it. Keep is simple, accessable and oil it if it's carbon steel.
For self defence, get a gun. You never ever want to depend on a knife to be in a fight with a knife. Knife fighting is one of the most dangerous things a person can do simply for how often people lose control of it or lose the weapon and get stabbed with it. Take up judo or bjj and try to defend yourself against someone with a marker. Wear a white shirt. If you can't avoid a marker you now how an idea of how fucked knives are. That's just the human factor. For bigger and worse things, you're not going to knife fight a snake.
You can make a long spear while out and use the distance with something like that though. Keep in mind the knife is the tool of which all others are created.
Homeless people have blood diseases, crack energy and if you destroy them like any normal person can, you are actually in 3 defence situations. First against the hobo, next against the medical check for hep C for life, finally in court when the dead beat retard of a sister comes in to talk about 'what a great guy he was' and get you put away in jail for standing your ground against a junkie.
So carry a knife.
Take up judo+bjj for basic self defence.
Use knife to make better tools.
Don't fight, run if you can.
And never knife fight because it's worse than regular fighting. Use an ASP baton or something. Less blood. No tests.
