Do you think playing a hunting game can translate to something useful in real life for a beginner?

No not really. Besides just getting out there, the best thing you can learn about for most hunting is plants and their cycles, and also the agricultural calendar depending on where you are. Cellular cams will teach you alot too. Go out in the woods and look for rubbings, trails, where things are bedding down, where the mast trees and plants are etc. are. Alot of it depends on what you are hunting.

No. You can perhaps learn a thing or two about animal anatomy with the shotcams, but thats about it.
I also became really disillusioned with hunting games (and vidya in general) when i actually started hunting.

No. Maybe if you're 5 or 6, which I think is the age this game was designed for based on the story.

Source: played this game alot. went hunting this year for the first time. It just isn't comparable. You can google "where to shoot a deer" and save yourself $40 if thats what you're buying the game for. I'm not saying don't buy the game, but don't buy it expecting to gain any sort of knowledge.

It didn't work.
If you live in any of the western states, you can basically shoot jackrabbit year round and in some states, you don't even need a license.
You'll become a much better hunter doing that than any video game.
I'm thinggin bout some jackrabbit stirfry now.

I do think you can learn some fundamentals from this if you're a beginner. You have to go slow if you stalk or remain quiet to ambush. The basics of concealment. How different weapons are loaded and fired. I think there's a lot you could get from this but definitely not a substitute for the real thing because you are comfy. I did just get into the waterfowl hunting on revontuli coast and it's pretty fun. Definitely the most fast paced action in that game. Just wish the shotgun had a normal bead and not weird iron sights but it's made by euros so I'm not surprised.

I dont see why not. A hunting game contains all the elements that contribute to real hunting. Spotting, stalking, shot placement, wind direction, camoflauge, bait, calling, smell, all of this and more are included in these games.

These arent the games of yesteryear, with boomers playing with plastic lightrifles as cardboard deer awkwardly prance around.

If you really think that knowledge cant be applied at all, boy, what would you say about something like a book?

might depend on what "kind" of a hunter you are or want to be. for me, I might not be that experienced of a hunter but when I am hunting I am engaging in my senses in a way that you can't get in a videogame, and I am trying to think like whatever I am hinting which is highly highly site specific, and probably can't be replicated very well by however they are programing the AI.

honestly you probably could get more beginner experience by trying to be more observant on hikes
