because the prong on the can opener is used to hold the knife tight when clipped together. The pressure exerted by the spoon and fork then keeps everything locked in against the tabs. I guess you have to play with it to see.

I use one of these, they're cheap. I also carry a victorinox recruit with two-blades, can and bottle opener. I have an opinel for cooking.

Am I the only one that just brings a few sets of disposable plastic utensils and paper plates/cups when I go camping?

They're super cheap and super light, plus the plates and cups can just be burned or discarded after use since they're made of paper.

Also saves on clean-up, although I guess you could always clean and reuse the utensils if you really wanted to.
