who's planning a thru hike in 2024? Now's the time to start planning. Post your planned route, big 3 gear, base weight, whether you've done one before, and anything else thru hiking related

Gear is usual redditfag loadout zpack arc haul, zpack duplex and EE 20 degree quilt. Price of this dyneema shit is gay as fuck, chinks need to hurry up and start making knock off definitely not dyneema tm.

I will never understand why people will spend thousands of dollars for ultralight trail hiking just to save 3-4 pounds on weight.
When I started hiking pack weights were usually between 16-20kg (15kg or less was considered lightweight) and after 3-4 weeks you would get used to it and mileage would slowly increase to 30-40k anyways. You would just get stronger, and btw. you will never really lose the strength. Nowadays I meet a lot of young fit looking people who are struggling to get 30k with 8kg.

Because I'm not poor and lumping a 15kg base weight for thousands of miles sucks shit. Beyond just the weight, dyneema is a fantastic material, it doesn't absorb water and stretch like silnylon garbage. My old silnylon tent was so fucking heavy when it rained, packing it up wet sucked shit and then you had to hope the rain cleared so you can sit around twiddling your thumbs waiting for it to dry just for it to rain again the next night.

There already is generic Chinese UHMWPE cordage, and it’s about 2/3 of the break strength of name brand cordage like Samson.
DCF is so expensive because the UHMWPE fibers are too fine to be woven by existing weaving machines.
That’s why DCF is non-woven.
They literally orient the fibers by hand before they get laminated between the Mylar.
Even if the Chinks used lesser quality UHMWPE, it wouldn’t be significantly cheaper since the process of hand aligning fibers can’t be scaled up the same way most fabrics could be by just buying more machines.

If you throw out accusations that others are weak, you have to prove you’re not weak or fat by posting physique. The idea is to establish authority.

Generally in an online discussion, the ideas being discussed are based on their merit. It’s easy to convey because we can just type them out. “I think Concept A is superior to Concept B, and here’s why…” The explanation, when plainly explained and easy to digest, is what establishes authority over the other opinion.

The same goes for attacks on someone’s I teligence. “You’re a retard because you think Concept Y is better” is a pretty popular one, and it’s often followed by each side trying to convince the readers that the other person is retarded via wit and humor or obvious facts (or links to scientific studies that were just Googled, or whatever).

But calling someone physically weak can’t be countered through discussion. As always, the burden of proof lies on the accuser. Since you can’t prove someone is weak, you have to prove you’re strong (or not fat, or whatever).
