I think after getting caught outside and swarmed over and over I built up some kind of immunity. they still bite me but they just don't leave marks. and I notice mosquitoes swarming my friends but leaving me alone. now I'm the redneck telling them they got sweet blood.
I used to get massive itchy welts from yellow fly bites too, and now they look like a little mosquito bumps on me and I barely notice it.
