“Thermal cover” is a very common term in hunting. Generally, white tail deer and feral hogs (and probably other game, but those are the only ones I hunt) will stay under the protection of trees during cooler weather, as trees provide a noticeable amount of heat retention. Usually it’s groupings of conifer trees on the southern sides of hills. This isn’t a crazy revelation or some ground breaking theory or new information. It’s common knowledge, but there aren’t many hunters on /out/.
In a thread about hiking, I posted the Skurka video where he talks about choosing a campsite. He mentions using trees for the same reason: they provide thermal cover (again, this isn’t a new term, it was only new to the newfags of /out/).
So, to recap: I’m wrong. Andrew Skurka is wrong. All hunters who aren’t retarded are wrong. All websites The instincts of game animals are wrong. The term “thermal cover” doesn’t exist or is a complete misnomer… but a random guy on /out/ is right.
