Alabama is one of the few states to have a law protecting the right of faith-based adoption agencies to refuse to place a child with a certain couple or individual due to the agency's religious beliefs. The law was signed by Governor Kay Ivey in May 2017.
From 1992 to 2021, Alabama's no promo homo law said that "course materials and instruction that relate to sexual education or sexually transmitted diseases should include [...] an emphasis, in a factual manner and from a public health perspective, that homosexuality is not a lifestyle acceptable to the general public and that homosexual conduct is a criminal offense under the laws of the state."[28] The law was repealed in April 2021 after Governor Kay Ivey signed the Alabama Legislature's bill to repeal all archaic references to "homosexuality and HIV/AIDS" in Alabama's post-1992 sex education laws.
Also, I forget whether its Alabama or Arkansas, but at one point one of them changed the issuance of marriage laws so that the clerk doesn't directly sign them and they just get mailed to you so they didn't have to endorse gay marriage I guess or something like that.
