I don't feel like writing my whole treatise on UCO but I'll tell you quickly my opinion.
I really want to love UCO, I REALLY DO. But the fucking lanterns fail and it's frustrating. You can burn an entire candle for 10-12 hours without issue but you can also burn a candle for 45mins and it will fail. You never know. And when the candle mechanism on a UCO fails the spring slips and it dumps molten candle wax all over whatever is under the candle. And you KNOW it will fail at some time but you don't know when. It's fucking miserable. And when it does fail it ruins the whole candle (UCO candles are fucking proprietary and thus expensive) and it also requires you to disassemble the whole lantern and try to clean it out. All the bits of leftover candle wax residue from the failure make another failure more likely. It just never fucking ends and I got so sick of it.
I finally decided to persevere with the UCO lantern but couldn't stand paying for failcandles anymore so I wasted days trying to find suitable candles on ebay and aliexpress etc and I couldn't get the numbers to work, it was a FUCKING money sink true and true. I actually still have my spreadsheet from years ago where I tried to balance the numbers.
I guess because I'm thick-headed and REALLY wanted to love my UCO lantern I went ahead and bought the big 3-candle UCO Candelier lantern. It failed constantly, it was goddamn devastating at this point. I was so stupid I bout a second bigass candelier and the same shit happened.
I was defeated with UCO forever. They never responded when I reached out to them for advice and just took my money and kept upping the prices of their proprietary candles until I was sick.
Sorry UCO, you were probably a good company back in the 80s but you make trash and you don't even help people who spent $200 trying to learn how to maintain your products.
