>>2687171I am going to list off every good tip I know, some might be obvious or something you already know so sorry for that.
- A sleeping bag/quilt that is comfort rated to the temp you are gonna be at (ISO 23537)
- A sufficient sleeping pad(s) with a high R value (anything above 5 is good)
- adding a closed cell foam pad on top of your inflatable insulated pad helps retain heat more than the sloped edges of the inflatable pad. (the sloped sides of the pad has more surface area for cold air to hit)
- A synthetic quilt over a down sleeping bag especially with pad straps allow you to trap an additional pocket of air and also protect your down bag from condensation
- Hot water in a nalgene/handwarmers in your sleeping bag at night
- The largest amount of heat loss comes from your head, wear a hat/balaclava/down hood when sleeping
- keep your head out of sleep system as your perspiration will introduce moisture and moisture cools quickly.
- Sleeping bag is too big, this makes it more difficult for your body to heat the air pockets, vise versa, too tight and then you compress the insulation making it extremely less efficient.
-take a piss and eat a good meal before slipping into your bag
- Generate heat before you get into your sleeping bag by chopping wood or jumping jacks, if your cold, a cold bag wont warm you fast enough.
- place your backpack and things beside your sleeping pads in order to prevent cold air from getting under you
- eating something spicy will decrease blood pressure thus get more warm blood flowing to you before bed
- change into dry clothes as moisture is easy to conduct cold
- consider wearing the insulating clothes you already brought to sleep
- in really cold temps consider a vapor barrier liner
