If the answer is yes to both, than go for it.
I've been thinking about what they call "trail crampons" lately, they aren't the super-cheap light-duty rubber pull on's with spikes, but they aren't heavy-duty ice climbing/mountaineering crampons either. Closer to real crampons but with much smaller spikes.
However, we don't get a whole lot of icy coverage days here, just a couple times a year and I'm trying to save my money to get into real mountains this year, so I've held off on them.
