>>269305That's actually a quite common way to cook veggies, meat and fish, not limited to camping, known as "en papillote". Works wonders with potatoes cut in two (pic related), and it's delicious with many cheeses like camembert especially when they come in a wooden box which will hold it inside.
To cook it properly, it takes a lot of time, 30 minutes being ideal, temperature doesn't have much effect on it as long as it's hot enough, though it shouldn't be too hot or it will burn it, but coals are just nice.
It doesn't keep that long though, cut vegetables will quickly rot, you might aswell keep them whole and cut them when you need them, or even cook them whole.
Though once cooked, that bundle can still be kept for some time, as in "edible" and obviously "safe". You essentially make a leaky tin with that, so what's inside is sterilized and stabilized, and won't alter for some time. But that's like 3 days, I wouldn't eat it after that.
