Everyone who says this, regardless of region, is either trolling or incapable of going more than three miles from the trailhead. I rarely see or hear a soul during my backpacking trips in Shenandoah NP because your average visitor wants to stay in their car or only go on one of the "top ever" dayhikes they found on alltrails.

I do know it can be a pain to get to good East Coast wilderness depending on where you live though. I have a minimum 90 minute drive to get out there and I consider myself among the lucky ones.

Really I think the problem with east coast geology is that its overgrown. The west has shitty soil and/or too dry so trees and vegetation never covers it up. Even in my pic related you can see that there are small trees covering it up.

The trees just obscure the rocks and geological formations. This also harms the meadows and cactuses and stuff that are adapted to live there. Ideally there would be periodic fires to prevent woody vegetation, but that wont happen because Fire = le bad and more trees = more gooder

also, shoutout to piatt park in sorta ne ohio I guess
the rocks were really cool but to see them you have to take the shitty trail (make a right at the fork heading downhill from the parking area) and the trail gets 45 degrees steep and super narrow and sketchy I did it sitting down but it takes you to a cool swimming hole and there's a more normal trail with wooden steps to take you back uphill on the other side of the creek, but to see the cool rocks, you have to take the shitty trail
