How do you have the time to go /out/?

When I was in college, I had all the time in the world, but gas was expensive and I couldn't afford an offroad car to reach trailheads / fancy gear, so my /out/ was limited to wherever I could car pool to with normalfags.

Now that I'm working, I can finally afford a 4x4, gas money, and UL gear. But with only Sat/Sunday off I have no time to go /out/, especially for longer multi-day trips

Is life just a journey of suffering until I get too old to go /out/?
Does it ever get better anons?

Why do you think the equipment is so expensive?
Why do you think those who go out have all the newest and fanciest equipment?
Because they are rich. They have the money and the time to do it.

Only option is to get a job that only has you work 4 days a week, or 3 day 12 hour shifts, something along those lines. That's literally all anyone can do.

You don't need an off-road car to reach most trailheads and you definitely don't need fancy gear. As for petrol, just save up bro, don't go out drinking every second night or whatever.
I was going /out/ at least every second weekend back when I was at uni. Sometimes just for a day hike an hour or two outta the city but regularly for camping or caving or diving trips.
Did your university not have an outdoors club? With, like, communal gear and facebook groups for car-pooling and shit?

Work less.
I'm working 3x10h shifts/week, 40 weeks/year and making enough to pay off a mortgage.

Have you actually made an effort to find a job that better suits your lifestyle or is whining on /out/ and /k/ as far as your motivation gets you?

You should try commercial fishing when the Ukraine war is over.
Balls to the walls work get you in shape and outside.
It also gets you a fat paycheck.
You go summer fishing in Alaska, you're basically camping all summer.
Mabye poach a couple deer. Go hiking every once in a while.
Can travel or camp or hunt in the off season.
It's a pretty good life.

Moved back to small rural town to get /out/ more. I can pack my stuff on Thursday and go straight /out/ after work on Friday. Although it's hard to find work in small towns and mine is seasonal.

There is a lot of truth to this. But I'll tell you how I get /out/ - by forcing myself.

The limiting factor in adulthood is time, right? So make time. No matter how tired I am, how over-worked, however stressed, I force myself, and make time, and afterwards, I'm always happier. And the more time I make, the more time I seem to have.

It's not just time, but also effort. The two are connected. The lack of time is actually due to the perceived difficulty of the effort. It feels like you have no time.

Money is the thing you have in adulthood, and it open up possibilities.
When I was a young student, I took trains, stayed in hostels, scrimped and saved, had no gear at all, but nonetheless had some awesome experiences. I wished I had the money I do now, but I made do.

If I mentally take myself back to the mindset I had back then, and the amount of EFFORT I put in, and then realise the money I have now from working a job, and having a car, being able to fly anywhere easily, and being more independent, I realise that actually, I have it better than ever.

So whilst it's possible that I do nothing at all for long time periods and get stuck in the grind (that has happened), when I have these realisations of how easy it actually is, I end up going /out/ every weekend, and doing lots of trips.

One of the key things about going outdoors is putting yourself into unknown and potentially stressful experiences, and getting through it. For some reason as we get older we become less willing to do that.

The only thing stopping you is yourself. Take some risks. Embrace the unknown.

used to have a job until a month ago, 5 days a week ofc, 9.5h days plus transportation time, wasnt an office job so I had to travel, stayed at hotels, but the days i went and returned it may take 2 to 5 hours, so if I finished at 17/18 if arrive home at 19 /22, and if i went to 2 places in a week instead of one it would be 4 days of this instead of just 2, anyway working sucks especially if you're not doing something you like, which you aren't in most cases.
now I'm copping unemployment money so I have more time to go out, but I'm not going much actually

that's what happened with me, when i stopped working i thought i would spend all the time going /out/ but not being broke makes you feel guilty about spending gas/toll money to go /out/
