Bugs are whatever. Ticks have good and bad years. They were almost non existent this year. Mosquitos are annoying and fairly consistent, but I wouldnt say brutal like some places out west.
The whites can be a nice place as long as you stay off the shortest routes up the 4000 footers.
I wouldnt say man can be truly free anywhere in the Northeast. Too much old money here and all the land is bought up.
