Moving to a homestead, When do I quit my job?

No.2706749 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
My aunt and uncle have been developing a homestead on a 15acre plot in the deep south for 5yrs.

I am 22 and they finally say I'm old enough to come live there in exchange for my labor. They only have 1 daughter who is not outdoorsy so yes my eventual plan is to make it so I'll inherit/own at least part of the land eventually. Have talked about this with them and they basically agree yeah- if I do a good job helping them develop shit, and build my own house out there, they'll give me some of the land. Even if not, I can't pass up the opportunity.

I have been working in a factory since 18, and have 10k in a Roth IRA and 20k savings. Right now I live with low expenses with my family, I used to live by myself in a studio apartment but didn't renew the lease and chose to come home because I plan to leave for da woods this year.

My family is supportive but not outdoorsy at all and I feel pretty torn up that basically everyone says they're going to forget/excommunicate me due to me going to live across the country.

My uncle told me to quit my job immediately so I can spend all my time physically training and preparing to move out. But I can't go for another 6 months at least due to existing plans. 6 months jobless seems too much to me.

What would you do?
I'm thinking about just going to a part-time job. But then do I get a really stupid job, or a physically demanding/outdoorsy one?
