Has it ever put you in a sketchy situation?
Today I was hiking in hilly location that I'm fairly familiar with but and part of the hike is done off trail, did like 2 miles in and stopped for a couple hours just enjoying the view, as the weather started to change and a dense fog set in it was time time to go back.
As I was backtracking I was pretty sure I was going the right direction but turns out I deviated too much to my left and soon enough I was walking parallel to the original trail instead of going to it. Only after maybe 10 minutes I realized the terrain didn't match and corrected my trajectory, this was all done by instinct because I had no compass and didn't want to rely on gps, anyway I finally got back on track after 45min and an extra mile.
