we love him no because he is badassest of them all
because he knows it's impossible to do real survival challenge as a tv show

he singlehandledly introduced bushcraft to britain, popularized, runs woodlore courses for 30 years, is britain respected tv personality, never whored himself for money, never had to pose as tough guy or adjust his image other than: talk properly, act like a gentleman

ray mears not only saved this craft from being forgotten, mastered it, and now popularized it and is teaching others how to do it
because surviving is castaways, boys lost in the woods and city slickers
natives and experts live of the land
