>>2713072>what did I miss out on if I was in scouts but missed summer camp.It depends on your location and budget. Some of my best summer camp experiences came as a paid intern for camp staff. Imagine camping for an entire summer rather than just a week. Played an entire D&D campaign, learned how to play bugle, ran over a skinwalker with Doug, found a love for climbing cliff's, got into a war over clothes pins, did some OA rituals, dressed in native American ceremonial garb, burned like 40 US flags, wrote a short story ext.
>I missed the entire experience and never became a scoutHate to say this, but you missed out. Scouting has been one of the strongest youth programs I've ever been in.
After being with 3 troops
>>2713077 is right, If your scoutmaster sucks, then the BSA sucks. Going off to world jambo we were combined into a state troop. Our state scoutmaster was a child beater who took our money, gear and supplies for himself to "responsibly monitor it". Despite the fact that it was against BSA leadership guidelines.
1st troop 760 was the best, we had a great time and I ended up loving how active the whole thing was. The troup had a combined cub and scout program, by the time we left the cub pack program grew to fill an entire school and the BSA and Venture programs were top notch. They had the money to go to small boat sailing, hang gliding and even scuba diving.
799 was super new, they ended up owning a bee farm through one of the parents. Sold a fuckton of honey and eggs due to how rural the place was. Pretty nice, didn't grow a ton but was somewhat active.
7354 was an ancient troop, they just planned and camped, that was about it.
>>2718298>Why isnt it dead?!BSA cooperate filed bankruptcy, the entire organization's made up of thousands of independent troops. So it was less of a dead program and more of a rebrand to Scouts, which incorporated girls which has essentially doubled their reach. Before that you could only be a Venture Scout as a girl.
