Help Me Start A Garden In Southern California!

No.271703 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Hello /out/doorfriends. I need some help. I live in Southern California near Los Angeles and just moved back in with my folks, where I had an amazing garden 10 years ago. I’m currently taking care of my mom’s tomato plant in a planter and rescued it from the brink of death and now it is starting to bloom and produce little green fruits. This made me want to get back into things and start another garden again but there are some problems…

First, my parents have two dogs which ruined the old vegetable bed (in the picture) I used for tomatoes 10 years ago and they shit all over the yard so I’m not sure how dangerous that might be to the soil. I was thinking of clearing out a space nearby and using two old wooden frames (one is 5’x5’ the other is 3’x3’) that were once used as a ‘strawberry tower’ but never panned out because of the location of where I put it 10 years ago. I was also gifted a Peruvian Purple Corn and two Peruvian Spicy Pepper (Aji) plants from my grandpa which are growing very well and will need to be transplanted soon…

I have lots of seeds that were in a box in the garage from 10 years ago and there is lots of stuff in there, as well as these Fall Gold raspberry seeds that I just bought and am extremely eager to plant. Today when I was at Wal Mart, I bought Sweet Basil seeds along with a Jiffy Mini Professional Greenhouse Seed Starting Kit. Before I can start my seeds, I need to determine the locations for each of the plants and if you guys help me out, I’ll be more than happy to show you my progress from starting the seeds and preparing the garden all the way to harvest on /out/ or via a blog or something.

I have pictures of the locations that might work but I’d love your input on what and where to plant stuff. Also, the backyard has 3 Citrus trees that are blooming and there were tons of bees this afternoon which will be great for the pollination process.
