Depends on your genetics, some people seem to have tastier blood than others. I went to Kenya and got bitten quite a few times -- however, my female companion who was from that country only got bitten once. She has a genetic immunity from what I can tell but my foreign blood was in high demand.

DEET is horrible chit. It literally wrecks your organs and causes cancer. Permithrin is inert unless you drink or inhale its liquid form. Keep using the DEET, fewer hikers on the trail for me someday.
